Dishing Out The Delish: Tasteful and Tasty Winter Wedding Menu Ideas
Dec 22, 2016 12:17 PM Back
Winter (with the holiday season) tends to bring out the kid in all of us…and that means plenty of opportunity to take advantage of this spectacular season and add some whimsy to your wedding menu.
Chilling and Thrilling Cocktail Hour Ideas: Consider mini bites of some of your childhood favorites (either with a traditional of gourmet “mature” twist if you’re a true foodie). Think about serving up some mac and cheese, grilled cheese bits, mini pizza , spaghetti and meatballs, fish sticks, mozzarella sticks, corndogs on a stick, and shot glasses of soup.
Seasonal Starters: Think about soup and salad bars, if you’re doing a buffet style display or about kicking off your main meal with seasonal soups and salads. Think bold and hearty options such as beer cheese soup. Potato leek soup, chicken noodle, soup or butternut squash soup , just to name a few. And, as far as seasonal salads go, go out on a limb with additions of pears, cranberries, pine nuts, chestnuts, walnuts or pecans. You may also want to opt for heartier greens such as darker kales, collard greens, etc.
Go Beyond The Mainstream For The Main Meal: I personally LOVE serving stations but if you’re doing a formal sit down dinner, you’ll want to think beyond surf and turf. Sure, you’ll want to keep Filet Mignon as a prime option, but you may want to think about more seasonal meats and dishes. Think turkey, ham, even goose or duck, especially around holiday time. You may even want to include Sheppard’s pie as one of your menu selections. As far as fish is concerned…think seasonally stuffed salmon, sole, etc. Or, how about a fish pot pie? Serve with seasonally sensational and savory side dishes such as: mushroom risotto, purple potato pancakes, whipped sweet potatoes or sweet potato souflee.
Vegetarian Options and Alternatives: Seasonal veggies are adding color and spice to gourmet menus these day…and master chefs are whipping up some succulent seasonal fare that is fabulous. Consider shrimp, crab or cornbread stuffed Portobello mushrooms; or how about risotto stuffed bell peppers or pasta with fish or sautéed seasonal veg….or an absolutely delish ratatouille dish.
Wonderful Winter Treats and Sweets: Think all white candy tables for a snowsational winter wedding candy display. You can also serve up some seasonal favorites such as hot toddies, egg nog, pumpkin pie, Yule logs, Panettone, cognac and baileys filled chocolates, etc. And, don’t forget the chestnuts roasting on an open fire.
